Procedure:
Laparoscopic Hiatus Hernia repair and Nissen Fundoplasty

- Hospital stay:Approximately 2 days
- Sick Leave:Approximately 14 days. Normal work may be resumed earlier depending on type of normal work. A sick certificate canbe obtained from the consulting rooms.
- Activity:You may resume driving a motor vehicle and light normal activities immediately. Normal daily tasks may also be undertaken. Light exercise e.g riding a bicycle can be resumed after 3 weeks. Normal severe exercise can be resumed after 6 weeks e.g. contact sports and gymnasium exercises.
- Wound care: Wound care is done at the consulting rooms every Friday morning between 08.00 and 10.00 hours. You need not make an appointment. You must report to the consulting rooms on the first Friday after you operation. Arrangements will be made for the removal of stitches or metal clips. The stitches arenormally removed after 12 to 14 days.
Diet:
A Private Dietician will visit you in the hospital on the day after the operation. It is important to obey the dietary instructions to hasten you recovery as well as to ensure the success of the operative procedure. No alcohol may be consumed during the recovery period.
Follow up appointment:
A follow up appointment is made for a date 6 weeks after the operation. This is for evaluation and examination. You may return to your normal work after 2 weeks.
Discharge instructions:
You must ensure that at the time of your discharge from the hospital you are in possession of the following items which must be obtained from the Nursing staff.
1. Medications which you were taking prior to admission and which you handed in prior to admission
2. Analgesics and the balance of all prescribed medicines which were prescribed during you period of hospitalisation.
